Meet Margaret Hayse!
I was born into a family that sang and played music together around the campfire and on road trips. I started violin at age five and loved it so much that I expanded to piano, voice, and other instruments, as well as music theory. My life so far has been spent performing, teaching, composing, conducting, improvising, and bringing people together through music in any way I can.
Why I Became A Musician
My dad played the violin, and as a toddler, I was enthralled by the idea of holding that instrument and making beautiful sounds with it. I started asking for one of my own and finally got my 1/8th size violin after my fifth birthday!
My Memorable Musical Experience
I once had to go out on stage with no music because the janitor had mistakenly cleaned up my sheet music! The piece was brand new to me and I'd only had three days to learn it, but I managed to pull it off with no mistakes. I'm still more proud of that than of any concerto I've ever performed.
A fun fact about me is...
For awhile, I lived on a farm while also working as an orchestra performer, so I once chased an escaped cow across a muddy field while dressed in concert black.
My advice to someone starting to learn music is...
Listen to lots of good music all the time, and pay attention to what you hear! Training your ear is the best thing you can do for yourself, because it improves the quality of your practice and allows you to become your own most effective teacher.
