Payton Harkins holds a Bachelors and Masters in Music from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem NC. He left home when he was 16 to attend UNCSA’s specially tailored high school program for musicians and artists, and stayed after high school to complete his degrees.
Since graduating, he has played concerts as a soloist and ensemble member all along the east coast. He is the band manager and arranger for the Charlotte jazz group ‘Quarter Past Midnight.’ Along with being a teacher and performer he is also a composer. His compositions have been used in chamber music settings, solo performances, modern dance performances, and commercials. He has experience teaching all age groups and numerous styles on the guitar, piano, and bass. Payton moved to Charlotte in 2011 to pursue a full time teaching career and has been teaching for Bold since 2015.
Payton is also a long serving member of the United States Air Force Reserves. He has had multiple deployments overseas and brings the professionalism learned in the military to his teaching and management duties.
